Huawei, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks to Cross-license Patents for Wireless Standards
October 03, 2008
Huawei, Nokia, and Nokia Siemens Networks have entered into an agreement to cross-license essential patents across a wide variety of wireless standards, Reuters reported on September 29. The agreement covers the patents for GSM (Global System for Mobile communications), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous CDMA), optical networking, data communications, and WiMAX, for use by all parties involved worldwide. Through this agreement, Nokia will gain access to Huawei's patents related to China's indigenous 3G TD-SCDMA standard, while Huawei will be able to avail itself of Nokia's patented GSM and WCDMA technologies.
